Dental Bridges
A missing tooth can be embarrassing, especially when it shows in your smile. It can also cause other issues in your mouth. When one or more teeth are missing, other teeth can begin to shift and move, changing the alignment. This can make it more difficult to keep your teeth clean and can change the look of your smile. A dental bridge can give your existing teeth support while filling the missing space in your smile.
How Does a Dental Bridge Work?
While there are many types of dental bridges, the most common is the traditional bridge to fill gaps in between existing teeth. A dental bridge is a fixed, permanent appliance that is made from ceramics and metal to form an artificial tooth or teeth when the natural teeth have been lost. Dental crowns are placed on the teeth on either side of the gap that connects to artificial teeth, or pontics. This creates the “bridge” using the support of the teeth on either side of the gap, filling in the space with new teeth.
Dental bridges can be used to replace one or more teeth to restore your smile. The artificial teeth look and function like natural teeth, giving you back your complete smile. This is a great option for those that are not good candidates for dental implants or need a more affordable option.
